The way we live and do business is set to change fundamentally in the future. By 2050, the European Union wants to transform our single-use economy into a circular economy that is carbon neutral, ecologically sustainable and free of pollutants. At Biowert, we are setting a good example – with AgriPlast, a bioplastic made from grass.
In the EU alone, around 26 million tons of plastic waste are generated each year. A large proportion of these petroleum-based plastics could be replaced by a more sustainable alternative, AgriPlast. The innovative bioplastic contains up to 75 % natural fibres and is fully recyclable.
For the production of AgriPlast, we use grass from the Odenwald region where our company is located. Once the cellulose fibres have been extracted, they are combined with post-industrial recycled plastics to form a compound. This patented process gives AgriPlast exceptional properties that are in many ways superior to those of petroleum-based plastics.

AgriPlast is a tried and tested bioplastic. It is equally suitable for classic products and for completely new applications. Over the past few years, we have worked with a wide range of partners and would be happy to support you in product development and production as well!
AgriPlast consists of a combination of natural grass fibres with thermoplastics such as rPP and rPE or biodegradable polymers. The bioplastic can therefore also be used in areas where high stresses are expected, for example for technical parts or in the construction industry.
Because AgriPlast withstands high and low temperatures, it can be used outdoors. The bioplastic is easy to process even when it contains a high proportion of fibres and has very good flow properties. For this reason, AgriPlast can also be used to make moulded parts with very thin walls.
AgriPlast replaces petroleum-based plastics with a compound made from cellulose and post-industrial recyclates. As a result, the sustainable bioplastic reduces the production of new plastics and the volume of waste.
The natural fibres are made from grass, which is available almost everywhere in the world. Grass is a renewable resource and can be harvested several times a year.
In addition, Biowert is working to reduce its ecological footprint and minimise resource consumption in the biorefinery. Our long-term goal is to achieve a complete circular economy that does not generate any waste or wastewater.
